The Traditional Christmas Concert of Viesgo, which celebrates its 11th edition this year, will not be able to be held this time with an audience due to the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the electricity company has wanted this appointment with culture and with the Christmas atmosphere keep celebrating. For this reason, the concert, which will be held behind closed doors in the Santander Cathedral, will be broadcast on Sunday 20 at 8:00 p.m. by POPULAR TV CANTABRIA through its DTT channel 41 and said broadcast can be followed simultaneously on through the website www.populartvcantabria.com.
The concert will be performed, as in previous years, by the Camerata Viesgo of the Reina Sofía School of Music, which on this occasion will be conducted by the maestro Giovanni Guzzo, who in addition to as conductor will act as concertmaster of the orchestra, since he will also is an outstanding violinist and chamber music player.
In the Traditional Christmas Concert of Viesgo the following works will be performed:
Wolfgang A. Mozart Serenade no. 13 in G major “Little night serenade”, K. 525 (1756 -1791)
Ottorino Respighi Antiche danze et arie per liuto, Suite No.3 (1879-1936)
Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky Serenade for string orchestra, Op.48 (1840-1893)

This concert is part of the different Christmas activities contemplated in the Viesgo agreement with the Santander city council, among which are also included the sponsorship of a float in the Three Kings parade, the collaboration with the city’s peñas to buy food and deliver them cooked to different charities and the installation of a luminous tree next to the Christmas market, in front of the Plaza Porticada in the Cantabrian capital. The electricity company Viesgo maintains its commitment to the city of Santander by supporting various artistic, cultural and sporting events, such as its usual collaboration with the UIMP, the FIS, the Reina Sofía School of Music or the Ateneo de Santander.
Viesgo and the Albéniz Foundation have collaborated for more than 20 years
The electricity company has collaborated closely with the Albéniz Foundation for more than 20 years, in its work to promote music among the youngest. Viesgo is a sponsor of the Music and Academy Meeting and the Paloma O Shea International Piano Competition, in addition to being a patron of the Camerata, created within the Reina Sofía School of Music, which bears the name of the Cantabrian company. With the sponsorship of the various activities programmed by the Albéniz Foundation, Viesgo continues to demonstrate its commitment to culture and music in Spain and to the training of promising young people, providing them with a musical education with the best teachers.
The Camerata Viesgo of the Reina Sofía Music School, which will perform this concert, was born in December 2003 as an intermediate group that has special significance both for the richness of its repertoire and for the educational value of its practice. This Camerata has also been directed by the masters Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Wolfram Christ, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Péter Csaba, Günter Pichler, Antoni Ros-Marbá, Paul Goodwin, Ivan Monighetti, Eduardo López Banzo and Gordan Nikolic.
