Admission is free and will feature works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Killar, Corelli, Vivaldi, under the baton of maestro Ivan Monighetti and performed by the Camerata Viesgo of the Reina Sofía Music School.
For the tenth consecutive year, Viesgo and the Albéniz Foundation will celebrate this Sunday, December 15, starting at 6:00 p.m., their traditional Christmas concert in the Santander Cathedral, which in this case celebrates its 10th edition.
The Camerata Viesgo of the Reina Sofía School of Music returns to bring music to a privileged environment such as that of the Cathedral of the Cantabrian capital, performing works by Arcangelo Corelli, Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and Wojciech Kilar, under the baton of Ivan Moniguetti. This famous Russian cellist and conductor of Swiss descent, was a student of Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory and also worked with him at the Moscow Philharmonic. In addition, he has performed as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic with Krzysztof Penderecki – who referred to Monighetti as an “extraordinary cellist” -, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra with Kurt Masur, and the Gulbenkian Orchestra with Muhai Tang.
He has been a winner of first prizes, including the Tchaikovsky in 1974, and since then his career has taken him throughout Europe, America and Japan. He has participated in numerous festivals, such as those of Ravinia, Berliner Festwochen, Santa Fe, Schleswig Holstein, Argerich and “Session de Música”.
The concert, which lasts approximately one hour, is free to enter until full capacity is reached. For the organization of this event, Viesgo has relied as on other occasions in the Santander Economic Kitchen and in the Obra San Martín Foundation so that its members help in the organization of the event, showing that inclusion is not only possible, but very positive for everyone.
The electricity company has collaborated closely with the Albéniz Foundation for more than 20 years, in its work to promote music among the youngest. Viesgo is the sponsor of the Music and Academy Meeting and the Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition, as well as being a patron of the Camerata, created within the Reina Sofía School of Music, which bears the name of the Cantabrian company. With the sponsorship of the various activities programmed by the Albéniz Foundation, Viesgo continues to demonstrate the commitment that it maintains with culture and music in Spain and with the training of promising young people, providing them with a musical education with the best teachers.
This concert is part of the different Christmas activities contemplated in the Viesgo agreement with the Santander city council, which also include the sponsorship of a float in the Three Kings parade and the installation of a luminous tree next to the Christmas market, opposite to Plaza Porticada in the Cantabrian capital.
The electricity company Viesgo maintains its commitment to the city of Santander by supporting various artistic, cultural and sporting events, such as its usual collaboration with the UIMP, the FIS, the Reina Sofía School of Music or the Ateneo de Santander.
