In total, we are to invest almost 8 million euros on adapting and correcting around 2,582 km of
our electricity network in Cantabria, Castilla y León, Asturias and Galicia.
Alongside this, in the renewable energy area, a monitoring project has been developed that
involves portable satellite radars to detect and monitor birds during the migratory periods of
August and November. The data obtained has allowed for the scheduled stoppage and immediate
stoppage of turbines to be established. By applying the latest technology in the detection of
migratory flows of birds, Viesgo has been able to reduce the death rate of these animals to zero
as they pass, for example, through Barao de Sao Joao wind farm in southern Portugal.
We also work closely with other institutions, such as SEO Birdlife, in
matters such as the monitoring of bird behaviour and their protection. All these activities are
closely related to compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals, more
particularly number 15, Life on land.
