The conservation of biodiversity is one of Viesgo’s main environmental and social objectives. Our commitment to the conservation of ecosystems leads us to collaborate in the financing of the LIFE + “StopCortaderia” project for the elimination in the north of Spain of feather dusters or cutters, which are invasive plants.

This project develops about twenty actions, related to the preliminary preparatory studies, the direct tasks of elimination and control, the monitoring and follow-up of the results and the dissemination of these initiatives, as well as the awareness of society in this regard. The areas of special action are the coasts that are included in the Atlantic region of the Natura 2000 Network, where their complete elimination is pursued, while inland areas seek to contain their expansion, expanding the list of municipalities free of feather dusters. This initiative, in which SEO BirdLife and social organizations such as AMPROS, SERCA and AMICA participate, also receives funds from the European Commission, the Ministry of Public Works, the Government of Cantabria , the Xunta de Galicia and private entities.
